In-Store Mobile Behavior [CHART]
Consumers engage in a wide range of product research activities when equipped with their mobile phones in a retail store, finds ClickIQ in a March 2012 survey. The majority of respondents, who qualified for the survey by having researched a product in the past 3 months using their device while at a brick-and-mortar store and since purchased the product, said they accessed the internet to research the product (61%), while one-quarter reported scanning UPS bar codes, and 18% said they had scanned QR codes. Social activities also figured into the equation: 11% sent a text and 8% an image to a family member or friend, while 11% called a family member or friend. 7% also called a different retailer than the one where they were shopping. Marketers Use Of Social Media Channels [CHART]
Smaller social sites with less current marketer usage will benefit this year. Nearly one in five respondents said they would begin marketing on YouTube in 2012. And though just 10% of marketers said they would have a new presence on Tumblr, that is on top of only 15% already using it, for an increase of more than 66%. More Than 1/4 Of All Photos & Videos Taken On Smart Phones [CHART]
Smartphones are becoming the go-to device for many consumers who want to take photos and videos on the fly. According to leading market research company The NPD Groupโs new Imaging Confluence Study, the share of U.S. consumers taking photos and videos on their smartphones has grown, while the camera and traditional camcorders share has declined. The percent of photos taken with a smartphone (Apple iPhone or any other smartphone) went from 17 last year to 27 this year while the share of photos taken on any camera dropped from 52 percent to 44 percent. 500px iPad App
According to 500px, the iPad is a perfect fit for photography, and its app has been doing particularly well. With over 100,000 downloads in the first week of release, it has been the top free photo app for iPad in all App Stores, the startup said.
Once they download it, people use 500px app quite intensively; according to the company, its US users flip through more than 100 photos per visit, spending more than 40 minutes in the app daily. Read the rest at TheNextWeb.
Online Behavior of Social Networking Teens [CHART]
Twitter is still far from being teensโ social network of choice, though. Most teens (59%) have an account on just one social site, and for 89% of that group, Facebook is that site.
